Has SpiderBasic Development Stopped

Post by dmontaine »

The last beta was released 9 months ago and never moved to production. Has development of this product stopped?

this has been discussed again
Not stopped (we hope :), but in the meantime the Developer works in migrating PureBasic (parent lanugange of spider) to a new architect and takes time

it was slow development anyway, but none of us expect anything before that finish.

The only person who knows is stubbornly silent.

I just think it's taking a back seat because of the big change that's in progress with PureBasic. Fred was weighing up alternative UI libraries so I'm confident we'll see some enhancements to SB once PB's C backend is in shape.

I think Microsoft's introduction of WebView2 presents the opportunity for PB and SB to become even more complementary. Imo PB's gadgets are its weak spot, enhanced SB plus a 21st century WebGadget in PB could be the answer.

Hi, that's really an interesting topic.

I'm still working with the free version at the moment - and I'm definitely willing to pay, if it suits my needs. No problem. But a forecast / teaser / information is always nice for us (possible) customers. ;)

It has been a tough life for all of us in the last 1.5 years - real life issues have been slowing down a lot.

Now I have a test of faith :?
I have a new project that requires a web front end, do I use SpiderBasic or not :?:

For me is the combination of SB (webapp/client) and PB (CGI/Server) still unbeatable.. :D

Honestly?
If your project needs a dynamic web interface and should be displayed correctly on smartphone, tablet and PC, then don't do it.

I created a web project with it (bought SB specially for it). But then had to put a lot of work into a framework so I can create dynamic interfaces with SpiderBasic. And even that is still cumbersome. Of course, this work was never part of my offer to the customer. :(

This particular app is really too data dense to be workable on a smartphone/tablet but I decided not to use SpiderBasic anyway as it seems to be abandoned :(
