Is it possible to stream the camera's view finder to a gadget and capture an image from it?

For mobile, you can use this cordova module: https://cordova.apache.org/docs/en/late ... in-camera/

Should be easy enough to integrate (probably natively in a future SB version).

Could we have a sticky in Tricks 'n' Tips demonstrating integrating Cordova modules?
